Question: How should the last two words in Ephesians 1:3 be written? As they are in most translations (with a capital “H”? Or with a small “h” as the Douay-Rheims and the New American Bible do?
I assume you are referring to the words “holy spirit” or (Holy Spirit)?
The ‘Interlinear’ states, “Holy Spirit” which blends into the 14th verse.
The ‘Strongs’ numbers are; Holy=40 and Spirit=4151; both show capitals in Greek.
The Greek Dictionary shows “holy” with lower case and “spirit” with lower case!
Different versions of the Bible show one or the other, depending on the method of translation, IE one person or a panel!
To me, the most compelling point is made by Dr. Bullinger in the Companion Bible; “It is clear from the “earnest” (v14) that it is the gift, not the Giver” that determines the point, therefore lower case!
